In short. Music Vine licenses music per project and by subscription. As of October 2026, its artist applications are closed. Artists earn 60% on exclusive tracks and 35% on non-exclusive ones, and at least half of an artist's tracks there must be exclusive. It will not take a track that is in Content ID through another label or publisher, unless it is removed first. The same company runs Uppbeat.

How to join

When checked on 26 October 2026, the artist application page said: "Our applications are currently closed but we encourage you to check back periodically, as we may reopen them in the future." It adds that until then, application inquiries "will not be considered or receive a response".

When applications are open, you send the Artist Application form. Music Vine's how-it-works page says a full answer usually comes "after eight weeks".

Two people review each track. They score it out of 10 in six areas, such as production quality, musicianship and commercial use. A track needs at least 50 out of 60.

Exclusive or not

In Music Vine's words: "Music Vine encourages the submission of exclusive music but also accepts non-exclusive music. At least 50% of your Music Vine portfolio must consist of exclusive material." See Exclusive or non-exclusive.

AI-generated music

From Music Vine's AI policy, last updated on 21 July 2025:

  • Not accepted: music "fully generated by AI". Also any tool "which may have been trained on copyrighted works without the original creator's consent". Even partial use of these tools, for example to make samples, is not allowed.
  • Accepted: "'AI powered' plugins that assist with specific aspects of the production process - such as mixing or mastering". Tools trained only on opt-in data may be allowed when they are "a smaller part of your workflow".

Music Vine says it will ask artists to state their AI use in the track submission form.

Files and metadata

From the submission guidelines for accepted artists:

  • Every track needs a Main Version, a full mix with an intro and an ending, from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. The license price is set by the length of the Main Version.
  • Optional extras: alternative versions, short clips of 15, 30 or 60 seconds, loops, and stems. Stems must be exactly as long as the Main Version.
  • All files are 44.1 kHz, 16-bit stereo WAV.
  • File names are lower case, with hyphens and no other symbols. The Main Version is named track-name-artist-name-main-version-duration.
  • Everything goes in one ZIP named track-name-artist-name.

More on versions: Versions, cutdowns and stems.

Codes, Content ID and royalties

  • Content ID. Music Vine runs its own Content ID system, AutoClear. It clears claims for licensed buyers and still claims unlicensed uses. "Artists receive 50% of all Content ID earnings through Music Vine."
  • Tracks already in Content ID. Music Vine "will not be able to consider tracks which are Content ID registered with a 3rd party record label / publisher, unless they can be de-registered before we take them onboard."
  • PRO. Music Vine accepts PRO-registered music. But its site does not yet prompt customers to fill in cue sheets. Its page says income from Music Vine comes "solely from a percentage of the licence sales". It says this will change with a site update, and gives no date.

How you are paid

  • 60% of each sale for exclusive tracks, 35% for non-exclusive ones.
  • Each artist you refer who is accepted adds 5% to one of your tracks, up to 75% exclusive or 50% non-exclusive.
  • Payouts go out monthly by PayPal, once you have at least $50.
  • During discounts, usually no more than 20%, your share is counted from the discounted price.

What to keep in your catalog

  • Exclusive or non-exclusive for each track, and whether at least half of your Music Vine tracks are exclusive.
  • The file names in Music Vine's format, and the length of each Main Version, since it sets the price.
  • Whether the track is in AutoClear. A track in Content ID anywhere else must be removed from there first.
  • What you stated about AI use for each track.
