In short. Uppbeat is a music library for creators, with a free plan and paid plans. As of October 2026, its applications for new contributors are closed. Artists keep ownership of their music. Uppbeat shares its revenue with them, and each download adds to the artist's earnings. Everything on Uppbeat must be human-made.

How to join

When checked on 26 October 2026, Uppbeat's help center answered the question "How do I become an Uppbeat contributor?" like this: "Our applications are currently closed, but we encourage you to check back periodically, as we may reopen them in the future."

Uppbeat is run by Music Vine Limited, a company in Leeds, UK. Uppbeat says it "grew out of Music Vine" and launched in 2021. Music Vine's own artist applications are closed too. See Music Vine.

AI-generated music

Uppbeat's about page says: "all assets on Uppbeat are human-made; no AI-generated music, sound effects, footage, or motion graphics here." It also says every asset "is verified as human-made". The rules for AI music on other sites: Can you sell AI music?

Codes, Content ID and royalties

Uppbeat says that on YouTube, "our system automatically identifies our artist's music." Buyers avoid claims in two ways:

  • Free plan. Each download comes with a unique Uppbeat Credit. The buyer pastes it into the video description. One credit covers one video.
  • Paid plans. The buyer can safelist a YouTube channel instead.

When a claim still appears, Uppbeat's claim release tool clears it. How the system works: YouTube Content ID.

How you are paid

From Uppbeat's help center and about page, as of October 2026:

  • "We operate on a revenue sharing model where the majority of the money from your subscription and other sources goes directly to our contributors."
  • "Every time you download an asset from Uppbeat, the contributor earns a payment." This happens on the free plan and on paid plans.
  • Artists keep "full ownership" of their work. Uppbeat says it does not buy out rights for a one-time fee.
  • Each year Uppbeat publishes an Artist Report "showing business performance and how earnings work."

What to keep in your catalog

  • Which tracks are on Uppbeat, and since when.
  • A note that you still own them. Uppbeat does not buy the rights.
  • Whether the same track is also in Content ID through a distributor or another service. Uppbeat's own system identifies its tracks on YouTube.
  • The date you applied and the answer, once applications reopen.
